Rocket car video

Now the maths

So our car sped along the 46m track in 1.677s
That means it was doing an average speed of 27.43m/s
As it started at 0m/s and it's average was 27.43m/s it must have been doing double that when it hit the buffers at the end that's 54.86m/s
In kph it's a massive 197.5 kph
Or 123.4 mph
That's fantastic well done boys

The rocket car challenge

Now to do the actual challenge
First a block of styrofoam has to be shaped.
Then smoothed
Given wheels

The finished product

Now waiting for the test

Launch time

There is a video but I can't upload it from my phone.
The Brambletye Bullet sub sonic car did very well staying intact after it's run and gaining the third fastest time.
Well done Brambletye rocketeers

Merc track

The group got to be drive up  the hill climb in the Mercedes that drove from Africa to UK on only one tank of fuel.
Approaching
And disappearing around the bend

Bloodhound stand

We went to the Bloodhound stand and booked up our rocket car challenge.
There was also the chance to make vortex machines from coffee cups.
These help understand how rockets work but can also make smoke rings

Goodwood FoS

We are here for the Bloodhound rocket car challenge but visited the Mercedes stand and just booked our track ride.

Year 6 get separating

Year 6 were given the challenge of obtaining a sample of pure salt from rock salt today.
First grind your rock salt
Ground solute dissolves quickly
Then mix with warm water so the salt dissolves.
Then the mixture was filtered
The rocky bit ends up as the residue in the filter paper
And then the filtrate was heated to evaporate the solvent, water.
Keep heating until nearly all the water has boiled off.
You then get pure salt
Simple
