Last Friday Y6 went to Wakehurst place to look for signs of spring in the gardens and to examine seeds in the seed bank.

First an intro from our Wakehurst teacher, Sharon

While sitting comfortably in the Millennium Seed Bank

We saw the biggest seed in the world, and the smallest.

Then out in the grounds to ask loads of questions.

And see lots of flowers, here on trees - Magnolia, pollinated by beetles!

Back in the seed bank checking out seed pods

And imagining a world with no plants.

Notes next to the Seychelles nut - biggest seed in the world.

Looking at the new arrivals in the seed bank.

They get prepared for cold, dry storage.

We also see what the scientists are doing.

Lots of seeds have been put out for us so we can see the wide range. Some are very useful, and tasty.
