7A get their white coats on

The first double Science lesson of the term and 7A did an experiment.

They heated the elements iron and sulphur.

These were mixed together in a boiling tube.

The metal could be separated from the sulphur with a magnet before heating.

But when heated a glow passed along the mixture as s reaction occurred.

The new substance, iron sulphide, looked different and wasn't magnetic.

The two elements made a compound.
